Live and act

Eberhard Friedrich Hehl was born on October 14, 1765 in Tübingen as the son of the town clerk Johann Georg Hehl (1715–1800). He studied law at the Universities of Tübingen and Erlangen and received his doctorate in Erlangen as early as 1786 (Dissertatio Inauguralis Iuridica Sistens Observationes Ex Iure Matrimoniali, Speciatim Secundum Leges Onoldinas). After two years as a lawyer at the court court in Tübingen, he worked as a court master in the service of noble families from 1788 , from 1795 to 1806 for the Prince of Hohenlohe-Kirchberg . In 1806 he returned to Tübingen. There he worked partly as a language teacher and translator, partly as a private scholar, mainly in the fields of history and the military as well as botany. For some time he worked for the Cotta-Verlag magazine "Europäische Annalen". In 1819 he became a representative of the city of Tübingen in the Württemberg assembly of estates and a representative in the state court . However, he refused to accept any further offices.

In 1829, Hehl bought a new house designed by the building inspector Christian Friedrich Roth (1787–1855) in Tübingen Neckarhalde 32 for himself and his family, which is now owned by the Protestant church.

As a printed publication by Hehl, his almanac "Historisches Handbuch auf every days in the year" published in 1790 should be mentioned. The manuscript holdings of the Tübingen University Library also contain almost 300 volumes from his decades of preoccupation with historical and military events in world history and the present, which are composed of meticulous collections of facts and excerpts, many of which are illustrated with drawings. Diaries and records of historical events are also included.

Eberhard Friedrich Hehl was married to Christiane Friederike geb. Hehl (1777-1854), the daughter of his half-brother. The famous geologist Friedrich August Quenstedt was married one after the other to three daughters of Hehl.
