Beginnings in Norway

On April 13, 2014, at the age of 15 years and 151 days, he made his debut against Aalesunds FK as the youngest player to date in the Tippeligaen . On May 16, he scored the final score of the game in a 4-1 win over Sarpsborg 08 FF , making him the youngest scorer in the Tippeligaen.

Transfer to Real Madrid

Despite his young age, Ødegaard was on the wish list of several European clubs. He completed trial training at FC Bayern Munich , Manchester United and Real Madrid . On January 22, 2015, at the age of 16, he finally moved to the Spanish record champions Real Madrid, with whom he was the first Norwegian to receive a contract until June 30, 2021. He should initially train alternately with the first and second team and play in the third-class Segunda División B until the end of the 2014/15 season . At the beginning of February 2015, Ødegaard was nominated for the Champions League squad. He played his first competitive game for Real's second team on February 8, in a 2-2 home game against Athletic Bilbao B , in which he was substituted on for Álvaro Jiménez in the 69th minute . Three months later, he made his debut in the last game of the season of the Primera División on May 23 in a 7-3 home win against Getafe FC with the substitution for Cristiano Ronaldo in the 58th minute. At 16 years, five months and six days he is the youngest Real player in the league to date. At the beginning of August 2016, Ødegaard was nominated for the UEFA Super Cup , but was not used in the 3-2 win after extra time against FC Sevilla .

Rental arrangements in the Netherlands

On January 10, 2017, Ødegaard moved to the Dutch first division club SC Heerenveen for a year and a half . By the end of the 2016/17 season , he made 14 league appearances. In the 2017/18 season , Ødegaard appeared in the league 24 times, always in the starting line-up, scoring two goals and preparing another. His loan contract expired on June 30, 2018.

He then returned to Real Madrid. In August 2018, Ødegaard was awarded again to the Eredivisie, this time to Vitesse Arnhem . In Arnhem, Ødegaard increased his performance rapidly compared to the previous season. Previously missed ten league games due to injuries, he played 39 out of 40 possible competitive games for his new club this season; only in the first two league games he was not in the starting lineup. He had a total of 23 goal participations (eleven goals, twelve assists). They finished in the league from fifth place in the table, but failed in the league-internal play-offs to participate in the Europa League at FC Utrecht .

Return to Spain

For the 2019/20 season, Ødegaard moved to Real Sociedad for a year on loan . In the attacking midfield, the Norwegian quickly became a regular and only missed a few competitive games. In the league, the group stage of the Europa League could be reached as sixth in the table , in the cup the final, which had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic . Ødegaard was on the field in 36 competitive games for the club, scored seven goals and prepared nine more.

At the beginning of August 2020, Real Sociedad said goodbye to his loaner, who initially returned to Real Madrid.

National team

In January 2014, Ødegaard took part in a tournament in Turkey with the Norwegian U17s , where he played against Scotland , the United States and France . He made his first appearance for the senior national team - as the youngest Norwegian and third youngest European player to date - on August 27, 2014 against the United Arab Emirates . On October 13, 2014, he came on as a substitute for the game against Bulgaria and, at 15 years and 300 days, is the youngest player in a European Championship qualification to date.
