Gülşehir ( Turkish for Rose City ), Zoropassos in antiquity , is a city and capital of the district of the same name ( İlçe ) in the Turkish province of Nevşehir in the Cappadocia region . Gülşehir is located about 20 kilometers northwest of the provincial capital Nevşehir on the south bank of the Kızılırmak and on the D765 highway.
district
The district is located in the western center of the province and borders in the north on the Hacıbektaş district , in the east on the Avanos district , in the south on the central district ( Merkez ) of the capital Nevşehir. In addition, the province of Kırşehir in the north and the province of Aksaray form a border with this district. The district consists of the district town and 31 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 314 residents. The scale of the population ranges from 968 ( Abuuşağı ) down to 41 ( Alemli ), ten villages have more than 314 inhabitants. The population density (24.8 inh. Per km²) does not reach half of the provincial value.
The D765 trunk road runs through the district in a southerly direction and ends in Niğde . Near the village of Yüksekli is Nevşehir Airport , Nevşehir Kapadokya Havalimani .
Attractions
In the village is the Karavezir Seyyit Mehmet Paşa Külliyesi, a complex of dome mosque, madrasah and supply facilities. About six kilometers south is the Johanneskirche (Karşı Kilise, St. Jean Kilise), a rock church from the 13th century. Three kilometers to the south is the Açıksaray (Open Palace), a collection of cave churches and monasteries. Individual finds have shown that the area was already settled in Hittite times. These include, for example, the Suvasa inscription stone near the village of Gökçetoprak in the southwest of the district.
