Santa Clara-a-Velha is a place and a municipality in the Portuguese region of Alentejo . The proximity of the Santa Clara dam makes the municipality attractive for tourists. In addition to water sports, there is also a lot of hunting in the region.

Santa Clara-a-Velha has its own train station on the Linha do Sul railway line . On September 13, 1954, an express train from the Algarve to Lisbon derailed nearby after a broken rail . 29 people died.
