Kozaklı Municipality

Kozaklı is a small town and capital of the district of the same name ( İlçe ) in the Central Anatolian province of Nevşehir , one of the smallest provinces in Turkey . Kozaklı is a popular spa resort in the Central Anatolian Cappadocia due to its central location to the nearest larger cities Nevşehir, Kayseri , Yozgat , Niğde and Kırşehir (all about 100 km away) and above all due to its natural thermal springs and the resulting hammam and hotel facilities .

The thermal town of Kozaklı has changed a lot, especially in the last few years. Through investments, the hotels (approx. 20) have increased their room capacities to approx. 650 and the bed capacities to approx. 7,000. The vast majority of the guests come from inland tourism, whereby a reservation in advance may be necessary, especially in the summer months.

There is no reliable information about the naming of the city. However, the assumption is that the city was named after a person named Kozoğlu , who lived during the Seljuk era and whose grave is still in the city.

Kozaklı has also made headlines in the media because of a failed rehabilitation center , the first in Turkey. The rehabilitation center planned at the beginning of the 1980s with the most modern equipment according to European standards could never be completed and put into operation due to political changes and alleged bribery payments. The ruins of this construction project can be seen opposite the city thermal baths (Belediye Kaplıcası).

The district was formed in 1954 and is located in the north of the province. In addition to the district town, it consists of 27 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 225 inhabitants. Karahasanlı (1,050) and Çayiçi (915) are the largest villages. Even the smallest village in the province ( Küçükyağlı with 10 inhabitants) comes from the district. The district has the lowest population density of all eight districts in the province with 17.6 (inh. Per km²) .

It is also worth mentioning the city administration's pioneering project to supply every household with geothermal energy. Attempts are made to use the relatively hot thermal water in households for heating purposes.
