Yozgat (old name Bozok , also Josgad ) is a city in Central Anatolia and the capital of the province of the same name . At the same time, it is the center of a district directly subordinate to the governor (Vali), the central district ( Merkez ). It is located about 220 km east of Ankara in a valley of the Ak Mountains.
district
The central district ( Merkez ) already existed when the Turkish Republic was founded in 1923 and is the largest in terms of area and the most populous in the province. It is located in the northern part of the same and borders in the north on the province of Çorum . It borders on Sorgun County to the east, Boğazlıyan County to the south, Şefaatli County to the southwest and Yerköy County to the west .
The district consists of the city ( Belediye ) Yozgat and 96 villages ( Köy ). These have a total population of 15,004 inhabitants. Each village has an average of 154 inhabitants, 40 villages have more inhabitants than the average. The population ranges from 860 ( Çadırardıç ) down to 13. The former villages Azizlibağları , Divanlı and Sarıhacılı became districts ( Mahalle ) of Yozgat in 2018 .

history
The city of Yozgat was founded in the 18th century by the Turkmen tribe of the Çapanoğlu.
Yozgat became famous through the so-called Yozgat method . After the clashes between the Ottomans and Armenians and the Armenian genocide, this was the first trial of the court martial, which took place in 18 sessions in early 1919.
Attractions
Sights are the Archaeological Museum as well as the excavations from the Hittite period, the Çamlık National Park, the Ethnographic Museum, the Suleyman Bey Mosque , the thermal springs of Sarıkaya, the ruins of the ancient city of Tavium , the mosques of Yanıklar in Yozgat and Yerköy as well the Yozgat clock tower.
Sports
Yimpaş Yozgatspor is a soccer club from Yozgat, which plays in the Türkiye Futbol Federasyonu 2nd Lig, the third highest division in Turkey, in the 2007/08 season. The club colors are black and red.
Yozgatspor (YYS) was founded in 1959. YYS has played in Turkey's professional leagues since it was founded. Yozgatspor celebrated its greatest success in the 1999/2000 season with promotion to the then Turkish first division ( Birinci Lig ), which was renamed the Turkish Süper Lig a year later .
economy
Yozgat is the seat of Yibitaş Holding , founded in the 1970s, and Yimpaş Holding , founded in 1982 , which is now active in the textile and food sectors in Turkey, Asia (especially the Turkic countries) and Europe.
An international arrest warrant issued in Germany has been available since 2005 against Yimpaş managing director Dursun Uyar , formerly chief accountant of Yibitaş. The Chamber of Commerce honored Dursun Uyar in November 2006 for "the success of four Yimpaş export companies and the high taxes they paid".
education
In 2006 the Bozok Üniversitesi was founded, which is an important educational institution in the region with 8 faculties and the affiliated schools and institutes.
