Boğazlıyan ( Armenian Պողազլյան ) is a city and capital of the district of the same name in the south of the Turkish province of Yozgat . The city unites around half of the population of the district of the same name. According to the city seal, the place received the status of a Belediye (municipality) in 1879 .

The district already existed when the Turkish Republic was founded in 1923. It borders in the southeast on the province of Nevşehir and in the south on the province of Kayseri . The remaining borders are formed by the neighboring districts of Yenifakılı , Şefaatli , Yozgat ( Merkez ), Sarıkaya , Çayıralan and Çandır (starting from the west in a clockwise direction ).
In addition to the district town, the district consists of five other municipalities ( Belediye ): Ovakent (2,451), Sırçalı (1,515), Uzunlu (1,527), Yamaçlı (2,678) and Yenipazar (1,881 inhabitants). In addition, there are 23 Köy with a total population of 6,692 inhabitants, which corresponds to a share of approx. 19.6% of the district population. Only one municipality has over a thousand inhabitants ( Özler : 1,188). The average village population is 304 people. The village of Eğlence became a mahalle (district) of the city of Yenipazar in 2018. The population density of the district is below the provincial value.
history
Boğazlıyan was established as a Kasaba by the Ottoman administration in the 19th century . At the beginning of the 20th century the churches Surp Minas and Asdvadzadzin were located in the village .
At the beginning of the 20th century, around half of the town and district were still populated by Armenians .
Under the aegis of the then Kaymakam Mehmed Kemâl , the Armenian population of Boğazlıyan fell victim to the genocide of the Armenians .
