Çekerek is a city and capital of the district of the same name in the Central Anatolian province of Yozgat in Turkey . Originally the place was called Hacıköy and was in the province of Tokat . Since 1944 the place has borne the name of the river flowing past it to the east and (according to the city seal) has since then also had the status of a Belediye (municipality). Çekerek is located north of the Süreyyabey Dam , which dams the eponymous river Çekerek Çayı .

district

The district borders Tokat Province in the north . The remaining borders form the neighboring districts of the province: Kadışehri , Saraykent . Sorgun and Aydıncık (starting in the east and going counterclockwise). The district was established in 1944 (Law No. 4642) and in 1990 (Law No. 3644) gave up two areas - Aydıncık District (then 29 settlements) in the northwest and Kadışehri District (then 30 settlements) in the east .

At the end of 2018, the district consists of the district town (47% of the district population) and the municipality ( Belediye ) Özükavak (1,335 inhabitants). There are also 41 villages ( Köy ) with a total of 9,095 inhabitants, i.e. almost 46 percent of the district. The average population of the villages in this district is 222, Bayındırhüyük is the largest village with 648 inhabitants.
