Akdağmadeni , Greek Ἀργυρίων Argyríōn , is a city and a district in the Turkish province of Yozgat . The place is about 90 kilometers east of the provincial capital Yozgat . According to the city seal, the place received the status of a Belediye (municipality) in 1862 .

The county

The district is in the east of the province. It borders Çayıralan to the south, Sarıkaya to the southwest, Saraykent to the west, Kadışehri to the north and the provinces of Tokat and Sivas to the east .

The city and the district crosses from west to east the European route 88 , which leads from Ankara in the west via Yozgat in the east to Sivas . The Akdağmadeni Deresi River has its source near the district town . It flows to the northwest and finally flows into the Çekerek Çayı , which forms the northern boundary of the district with Kadışehri. The Akçakoyunlu Deresi rises in the northwest and flows into the Akdağmadeni Deresi. In the northeast, the smaller Gökdelen Deresi flows from the 1,422 meter high Çamlı Dağı into the Çekerek Çayı. The place is located on the northwest slope of the Ak Dağları Mountains, which occupies the southeast of the district. These include the 2155 meter high Büyüknalbant Dağı southwest and the 1855 meter high Çiçekli Tepe northeast of Akdağmadeni.

The district already existed when Turkey was founded in 1923. It is the second largest in the province and is divided into the district town ( Merkez ) (approx. 49.6% of the district's population) and three other communities ( Belediye ): Umutlu (2,017), Belekçahan ( 1,832) and Oluközü (1,361 pop .). There are also 78 villages ( Köy ) with a total population of 16,436 inhabitants (38.3% of the district's population). None of the villages has over a thousand inhabitants, Yukarıçulhalı (730) and Üçkaraağaç (713 inhabitants) are the two largest. On average, 211 people live in each of the 78 villages.
