Saraykent is a city and capital of the district of the same name in the Turkish province of Yozgat . The place is about 60 kilometers east of the provincial capital Yozgat . The place was called Karamağara until 1974. and (according to the city seal) was raised to the rank of Belediye (municipality) in 1972 .

The district is located in the eastern center of the province. It borders Çekerek County in the north-west , Kadışehri County in the north , Akdağmadeni County in the east , Sarıkaya County in the south, and Sorgun County in the south-west and west . The city and the district crosses from west to east the European route 88 , which leads from Ankara in the west via Yozgat in the east to Sivas . The northern border of the district roughly follows the Çekerek Çayı river . The Saray Deresi , which rises in the south of the district, flows into this. Lake Altınsu Göleti is about six kilometers southwest of the district town
. Many people lost their lives during an earthquake in the region in 1941.

The small district was established in 1990 by law No. 3644. Until then, the nine localities belonged to Bucak Karamağara in the western part of Akdağmadeni district.

At the end of 2018, the district of Saraykent consisted of the district town (42.65% of the district's population) and two other belediye: Dedefakılı (1,780) and Ozan (1,679 inhabitants). In addition, 14 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 335 residents belonged to the district. The scale of the population ranged from 709 ( Çiçekli ) to 61. Six of the villages had more than the average population. The proportion of the rural population was just under 33 percent at the end of 2018. The population density (44.5 inh. Per km²) was above the provincial value.
