Çayıralan is a city and capital of the district of the same name in the Turkish province of Yozgat . The place is about 90 kilometers southeast of the provincial capital Yozgat . According to the city seal, the place was raised to the rank of a municipality ( Belediye ) in 1948 .

The district is located in the southeast of the province. It borders in the southwest on the district of Çandır , in the northwest on the district Sarıkaya , in the north on the district Akdağmadeni and in the east and southeast on the provinces Sivas and Kayseri . The place is connected by country roads with Sarıkaya and Çandır in the west and with Gemerek in the east. In the north, the Kanak Çayı River flows through the district from east to west; it is dammed up at Aşağıyahyasaray to Yahyasaray Barajı . In the west on the border with Sarıkaya is the Baraklı Barajı reservoir . In the east lies a southern part of the Ak Dağları Mountains with the elevations Ziyaret Tepesi (1951 meters), Çatalsay Tepesi (1985 meters) and Peyniryuvarlıyan Tepesi (2003 meters).

The district has existed since 1948 and, in addition to the district town ( Merkez ) with 38 percent of the district population, also includes another municipality ( Belediye ): Konuklar (1,715 inh .). The district also has 24 villages ( Köy ), of which Curali is the largest with 814 inhabitants. On average, 272 people live in each village in the district. With a population density of 13.6 inh. Per km², the Çayıralan district is the most sparsely populated in the province, the urban population is 53.74 percent.
