Fuat Oktay

Fuat Oktay (* 1964 in Çekerek ) is a Turkish politician and has been Vice President of Turkey since July 9, 2018.

Life

Fuat Oktay graduated from Çukurova Üniversitesi with a degree in business administration in 1985 and then worked there as a research assistant. In 1990 he completed a master's degree in business engineering and manufacturing technology from Wayne State University in Detroit and received a PhD in industrial engineering. During his stay in the USA, he specialized in automotive engineering and information technology.

After his return, Oktay taught at Beykent Üniversitesi , where he was head of the management department and deputy dean . In addition, Oktay has served as a consultant, managing director, vice president and board member of state and private companies. Oktay worked as deputy managing director of Turkish Airlines between 2008 and 2012 and was responsible for strategic planning, business development, product planning and information technology, as well as sales and marketing. Oktay was a board member of Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), Turkish Technic and Vice President of Türk Telekom .

Between 2012 and 2016, Oktay headed the civil protection agency Afet ve Acil Durum Yönetimi Başkanlığı (AFAD).

After Binali Yıldırım was appointed Prime Minister of Turkey, Octay was appointed Undersecretary in his home on June 18, 2016. After the parliamentary elections in Turkey on June 24, 2018 , President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan appointed Oktay to the newly created office of Vice President on July 9, 2018.
