Türk Telekomünikasyon A.Ş. , or Türk Telekom for short , is the largest telecommunications company with the highest turnover in Turkey. As a mobile network operator , the company is the second largest mobile network provider in the country behind Turkcell and ahead of Vodafone Türkiye . The mobile services are sold under the brand name Avea , which was merged with Türk Telekom as a formerly independent company.

Companies

The company, headquartered in Ankara , was founded in 1995 through the privatization of the telecommunications division of the state-owned PTT .

In 2005, the majority of the Türk Telekom was privatized to Oger Telecom , which is owned by the family of the murdered Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri . Thus, Oger Telekomünikasyon A.Ş. 55 percent of the Türk Telekom shares. 30 percent of the shares are owned by the State Secretariat for Treasury. 15 percent of the shares are in free float.

In the field of landline telephony , Türk Telekom is the largest provider in Turkey. However, since 2008 the number of customers has been steadily declining in favor of the mobile network providers (from 17.5 million at the end of 2008 to 13.5 million at the end of 2013). In addition, Türk Telekom was an important operator of mobile and Internet services. At the end of 2009, Türk Telekom had 6 million ADSL and 12.6 million mobile phone customers. However, these areas were handed over to the subsidiaries TTNET and AVEA. The company employs around 34,000 people and achieved sales of 10.8 billion Turkish Lira in the 2009 financial year .

Subsidiaries

The most important subsidiaries include the mobile operator Avea with over 11.8 million customers and the broadband internet service provider TTNET with around 6 million customers.

Sponsorship

Since the 2010/11 season the games of the traditional club Galatasaray Istanbul have been played in the new stadium, named after the main sponsor Türk Telekom under the name Türk Telekom Arena .
