Avea İletişim Hizmetleri A.Ş. , Avea for short (formerly Aria), was an independent mobile network operator in Turkey until 2016 and is now the brand name of the mobile communications sector of Türk Telekom . Its competitors are Turkcell and Vodafone Türkiye . At the end of 2012, Avea had around 13.5 million customers and network coverage of 96.7% of the Turkish population.

Aria was the third mobile network provider in Turkey and at the same time the first GSM operator to introduce and exclusively use a DCS 1800 network in the country and to make it available to its customers from March 2001.

The company was a merger of the companies Türkiye İş Bankası (İş Bank) and Telecom Italia Mobile (TIM) in October 2000. The last structural change was made in June 2004. Here, the hitherto independent mobile communications company Aria and the fourth Turkish GSM network Aycell merged to form Avea (Turkish "A ve A", translated to German "A and A", the first letters of the two companies). Aycell was a company of the Türk Telekomünikasyon A.Ş., in short Türk Telekom (TT).

Currently (since May 2012) Türk Telekom holds 89.99% and İş Bank the remaining 10.01% of the company's shares.

Others

With its large advertising campaigns and promotions in the wireless communications market, Avea is a well-known and dynamic brand that aims to appeal to young customers in particular. Among other things, it is the main sponsor of the two large traditional Istanbul clubs, Fenerbahce and Galatasaray, and its advertising medium includes well-known show greats such as the Turkish pop star Tarkan , who composed a song especially for the company.

The Telefónica Germany worked until February 2017 with Avea's parent company Turk Telekom together and offered in Germany under the name Türk Telekom Mobile various postpaid and prepaid tariffs to. The specialty was that there were no roaming charges in Turkey. After the end of the cooperation, existing customers were transferred to the TurkeySIM brand .

A similar product has been offered under the same name by the Belgian network operator Base since 2013 .
