Ekrem Dumanlı

Ekrem Dumanlı (* 1964 in Yozgat ) is a Turkish journalist and former editor-in-chief of the daily newspaper Zaman .

Life

Dumanlı was arrested at the age of 16 in the military coup on September 12, 1980 , was imprisoned for one year and was subsequently acquitted. In 1987 he completed a degree in Turkish language and literature at İstanbul Üniversitesi . In 1993 he worked in the cultural section of the daily newspaper Zaman . He later became editor of the department and then editorial coordinator. His 1997 drama Son Duruşma was performed at İstanbul Dünya Sahnesi. In 1997 he traveled to the USA and received his master's degree from Emerson College in Boston . When he returned to Turkey in 2001, he became editor-in-chief of Zaman .

Dumanlı is a member of the Turkish Press Council ( Basın Konseyi Yüksek Kurulu ) and the World Association of Newspapers . He teaches at the Fatih Universitesi in Istanbul , which (like Zaman ) is part of the Gülen movement .

At the end of 2014, he was provisionally arrested and interrogated during an investigation against the so-called Tahşiyeciler and then released. In October 2015 he resigned as editor-in-chief of Zaman for health reasons.
