Jihad from Ahmad b. Mohammad
The Jihad Ahmad bin Mohammad began in 1818 in the region Massina in Mali against "pagan" Fulani and later against the "pagan" Bambara extended.
The aim of the military campaign was the establishment of an Islamic state to reunite the area of the former Songhai Empire and Timbuktu . The result was an Islamic theocracy and the establishment of a more orthodox Islam that replaced the previous pluralism of Orthodox Islam, Sufi Islam, and traditional African religions.
