Nuno Valente [ ˈnunu vɐˈlẽtɯ ] (born September 12, 1974 in Lisbon ; actually Nuno Jorge Pereira Silva Valente ) is a former Portuguese football player .

Career

The fast left-back with a good shot can be described as a late starter nationally and internationally. After several changes within Portugal, he only really blossomed under coach José Mourinho at FC Porto . Under him he became World Cup and Champions League winner in 2004 as well as Portuguese champion. After the season he moved to the English club Everton for two million euros . He was mostly in the first team in his first two seasons at Everton, but was only used sporadically in the years that followed. In 2008 Valente extended his contract for one year. In the current 2008/09 season, Valente only made two appearances in the first two games. On June 12, 2009 it was announced that his contract with Everton, which expired in 2009, will not be renewed.

With the national team, he was runner-up in his own country at the 2004 European Championships and took part in the 2006 World Cup.

For the 2010/11 season Nuno Valente took over the job of assistant coach at Sporting Lisbon .
