history

The Gothic choir was built around 1400. The baroque redesign of the nave and the sacristy extension with oratory is from the end of the 17th century. The tower was built in 1713 with the builder Blasius Rues. The nave vault was simply stuccoed at the beginning of the 18th century. The former parish church in the Breitenau became in 1760 a branch church of the parish church of Sankt Erhard in the Breitenau . The gallery was built in the third quarter of the 18th century. In 1959 the interior was restored and frescoes were uncovered on the north wall of the choir.

architecture

The church is a small Gothic church building with baroque extensions. The single - bay choir with a five-eighth closure under a ribbed vault with keystones has simple buttresses. Frescoes on the north wall of the choir show the Last Judgment (partly destroyed by the installation of a sacristy door) and Christ in the mandorla from the second half of the 15th century. On the triumphal arch is a fresco of Veronica's handkerchief from the end of the 14th century. In the south window there are six high-quality glass paintings from 1420 with the Annunciation, Crucifixion, Pietà, mercy seat, Man of Sorrows, St. James.

The three-bay nave - Gothic in the wall core - has a vault as a flat barrel with extensions by two side chapels at the height of the third bay. The tower has a square plan. The walled organ gallery has a painted wooden parapet.

Furnishing

The high altar from 1769 was based on a design by Veit Königer and has figures by the sculptor Matthäus Krenauer and shows a good high altar painting of St. James. The two side altars from 1701 on the fron arch have altarpieces with rich acanthus frames. The altars in the side chapels are from the fourth quarter of the 17th century, the acanthus cheeks were added later. The pulpit is from 1680 and has a sound roof from the second quarter of the 18th century. There are some baroque figures from the 17th and 18th centuries.

The organ is from 1912. A bell is from the 15th century.
