Bellerophon painter
The Bellerophon painter was one of the first Attic black-figure vase painters. His creative period is between 630 and 600 BC. Dated.
The Bellerophon painter was a contemporary of the Nessos painter , but he could not come close to his importance and artistic class. Two neck amphorae depicting the Bellerophon and the Chimaira are known from him, both were found in Vari and are now in Athens, National Museum Inv. 16389 and 16391. It is noticeable with him and some other Attic vase painters of this time that the picture surfaces of the large-format vases are filled with many figures and ornaments, some of which are difficult to distinguish from one another.
