history

On December 1, 1860, the “Advance Payment Association of Limburg” was founded in Limburg, from which today's “Vereinigte Volksbank eG Limburg” emerged. In 1883 an auditor appointed by the Mittelrheinischer Verband started his work. This compulsory audit of trade and business cooperatives was carried out every two years from now on.

In 1900 the assets of the now more than 900 members (cooperative shares) rose to around 250,000 gold marks. The approved advances and loans recorded a 50 percent growth over the previous year to over 19.9 million gold marks.

After the continued positive economic development, the bank had over 1,300 members on its 50th anniversary in 1910. At that time, they had subscribed to around 450,000 gold marks in cooperative shares. From May 6, 1920, following the decision of the General Assembly with its chairman Jakob Laux (since 1918), the advance payment association was called “Limburger Volksbank eG”. At that time the bank had 1,400 members. The Limburger Bank survived the subsequent global economic crisis without government aid.

Under the rule of the National Socialists, the bank was able to increase its sales by 15 percent in 1936, but was below the growth rate established for the Reich territory. The board of directors attributed this to the lack of orders and financings "connected with the military detention of the people" in their division. By the end of 1940 the bank had invested around 50% of the balance sheet total in securities due to the compulsion to buy securities. In 1941 it was again possible to renovate the business premises for around 10,000 Reichsmarks.

After the Second World War, the Limburger Bank was able to expand rapidly due to the economic upturn. At the time of the currency reform on June 20, 1948, the balance sheet total was 9.5 million Reichsmarks. At the conversion rate of 10: 1 at the time, this was 950,000 DM. As early as 1953, the balance sheet total exceeded 2.59 million DM.

In 1955 the bank building on the Schiede was expanded. On May 30, 1959, the bank opened its first branch in Eschhofen. On December 1, 1960, the Limburger Volksbank celebrated its 100th anniversary. The guest of honor was Hubert Hugo Hilf, the grandson of the bank's founder, Hubert Arnold Hilf. As the first credit institute in the area, the bank introduced data processing with punch cards in 1964. The planned new building on the property next to the trade union building, which was acquired in 1965, did not come about due to delays. Instead, today's property next to the town hall in Werner-Senger-Straße was acquired for the new building.

The branch in Eschhofen was followed by Hadamar in 1964 , Niederselters in 1966 , Oberbruch and Ellar in 1968 , Limburg in Diezer Straße and the branch in Brückenvorstadt. In the same year, the check card for cashless payments was introduced and Volksbank Kirberg and Elzer Volksbank merged with Limburger Volksbank with their Staffeler branch in 1969. The balance sheet total exceeded 50 million in 1969, two years later it already exceeded 100 million. Brand.

After three years of planning and construction, the new headquarters building was officially opened on May 22, 1970. The branch network is further expanded with Blumenrod (1971), Linter and Dehrn (1972) and Offheim and Lahr (1973). In 1973 the General Assembly decided to rename it to “Vereinigte Volksbank eG Limburg”. The branches of Selmi-Bank AG Frankfurt located in Limburg and Elz are taken over by the United Volksbank Limburg in 1974.

On the occasion of its 125th anniversary, the United Volksbank Limburg donated a memorial in 1985, which was erected next to its main office in memory of Werner Senger and his legacy.

In August 2016, VVB merged with Volksbank Rhein-Lahn in Diez to form Volksbank Rhein-Lahn-Limburg , based in Diez.
