Volksbank Lahnstein

The first thoughts of founding an advance payment association in Oberlahnstein and Niederlahnstein under the name "Volksbank" go back to 1863. On June 19, 1876, the Lahnsteiner Anzeiger reported that the last meeting of the local residents to found a Volksbank was received with lively interest and that the establishment of the institute appeared secure. Leading personalities from the community of Oberlahnstein took part in this meeting. The names of the founders are no longer known, and documents about the first few years of business activity are also missing. The first entries in the cooperative register of the royal district court of Lahnstein were also lost. Records found there begin with the year 1889.

The oldest still existing and printed balance sheet dates from 1896. It shows a balance sheet total of 170,454 marks. The number of members was 400. In the first descriptions, publications and various appeals there was always talk of an "association". After the first German law on cooperatives came into force on May 1, 1889, the legal form of the registered cooperative with unlimited liability was chosen. This strengthened depositors' confidence and began slow but steady growth. In 1918 the institute was converted into a registered cooperative with limited liability.

In the first decades, the management of the cooperative was in the hands of honorary board members, who successfully tried to practice the ideas of self-help and self-responsibility. The years 1914 to 1918 ( World War I ) then interrupted normal further development. The inflation in the 1920s years brought many citizens losses. The property invested in real assets could be partially preserved, capital assets were almost destroyed. The bank was not spared from this development, because the business assets accumulated in previous years were also almost completely lost. The Second World War , after a brief period of economic recovery, brought heavy pressure again and finally the collapse of the state. On June 21, 1948, the currency reform was announced. The D-Mark came and with it the social market economy .

Volksbank Diez-Naststätten

Following the example of Schulze-Delitzsch and Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen , cooperatives were founded all over the country in the middle of the 19th century for the purpose of self-help. In Diez, Naststätten, Holzappel, too, citizens founded advance payment associations (the legal predecessor of Volksbank Diez-Nastätten) based on the Schulze-Delitzsch system. Exact founding dates or the names of the founders are not known. From a report by the Rheinischer Kurier on Friday, May 23, 1862, one can conclude that the advance and credit association in Nastatten was founded in 1861.
