Jean Yarbrough

Jean Yarbrough (born August 22, 1900 in Marianna , Arkansas , USA , † August 2, 1975 in Los Angeles , California , USA ) was an American director and television producer.

Life

Born in Arkansas, Yarbrough came to Hollywood in 1922 after studying at the University of South in Sewanee , Tennessee , where, after his initial experience as a prop master , he worked for Hal Roach Studios from 1926 and worked as an assistant director in numerous short films. In this role he was u. a. Involved in Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy's first attempts at filming . After a stopover at Mack Sennett Comedies at the beginning of the 1930s, Yarbrough switched to RKO Pictures in 1934 , where he took on his first major directing assignments from 1936, which consisted primarily of comedies and musicals.

Film director

After he had made his first full-length film in 1938 with the drama Rebellious Daughters , Yarbrough began directing low-cost horror productions such as The Devil Bat , Lord of the Zombies - Isle of the Living Dead , House of Horrors , She-Wolf of London and The Brute Man a higher profile. Another main focus was the collaboration with the comedian duo Abbott and Costello , with whom he made five films between 1944 and 1952.

TV career

When the popularity of the traditional B-movie began to decline in the early 1950s, Yarbrough switched to the TV division and served as the producer and director of the 52-part comedy show The Abbott and Costello Show from 1952 to 1954 . In the 1960s, Yarbrough was primarily a guest director for established series such as Rauchende Colts , The Addams Family and Bonanza , before a regular engagement for the Wild West series The Trail of Jim Sonnett and several filming jobs for In the Wild West followed at the end of his career .
