Harry Lachman

Harry Lachman (born July 29, 1886 in La Salle , Illinois , † March 19, 1975 in Beverly Hills , Los Angeles ) was an American actor , designer and director .

Life

Lachman graduated from the University of Michigan and then became an illustrator for a magazine. In 1911 he migrated to Paris , where he built a considerable reputation as a post-impressionist painter and was awarded the Legion of Honor by the French government .

He later worked as a set designer in Nice for the shooting of the silent film Mare Nostrum and began to be increasingly interested in the subject of film. Lachman made films as a director in France , England and from 1933 also in Hollywood . In 1934 he made the movie Baby take a bow with Shirley Temple as a box office hit. Few of his other films were known. The successful ones included Das Schiff des Satans (1935; original title: Dante's Inferno ) and a short film with Dick and Doof .

In 1943 Lachman returned to painting, where he had made a name for himself as a post-impressionist even before he started working in film . He preferred to paint landscapes and coastal scenes.
