Lester Matthews (born June 6, 1900 in Nottingham , England , † June 6, 1975 in Los Angeles , California ) was a British actor .

life and career

Between 1931 and 1974, Matthews made over 180 film and television appearances. He celebrated his breakthrough in 1935 with major supporting roles in the American horror films The Raven and The Werewolf of London . Outside of the horror film genre, however, he only took on minor tasks. The tall, dark-haired actor played mostly spirited young men or dangerous henchmen. From the 1940s onwards, Matthews turned to more and more character roles, which became smaller and less important over the decades. From the 1950s onwards, he appeared on US television as a guest actor in numerous television series such as 77 Sunset Strip and Bonanza .

He ended his film career in 1974 and died a year later on the day of his 75th birthday. Matthew's ashes were scattered in the Pacific . The actor was married three times and had one child.
