action
At the beginning of the 19th century, the novice Teresa nursed the British lieutenant Michael back to health in a monastery in Spain. Teresa falls in love with him and breaks with her old life in the monastery and leaves it to look for Michael.
criticism
“Emotional love adventures of an escaped novice who later returned repentant at the time of the Napoleonic wars in Spain, framed by a miracle of Mary. Very strangely staged as half an operetta theater. "
“In terms of records and legends, this classic religious expression had a remarkably reverential, if not mystical, quality on the stage, where it was typically performed against the backdrop of a massive cathedral. But after Butler had rewritten it for Warner for the screen, it is gossipy, colorful and vulgar, and only starts in a church. "
background
Originally, the film was to be directed in 1942 by Wolfgang Reinhardt , the son of the Austrian theater director Max Reinhardt , who directed the German silent film.
