Irving Rapper (born January 16, 1898 in London , † December 20, 1999 in California ) was a British -American film director .

Life

Rapper emigrated to the United States and initially worked on Broadway while studying at New York University . In 1936 he received a contract with Warner Brothers , where he enjoyed great success over the next two decades. The literary adaptation with one foot in heaven ( One Foot in Heaven ) received in 1941, a nomination to Oscar as "Best Film". For his 1944 film The Adventures of Mark Twain ( The Adventures of Mark Twain ) rapper worked with the American writer Harold Sherman , who wrote the screenplay.

The film, directed by Rappers, Red Dust ( The Brave One ) won an Oscar for "Best Original Story," written by Dalton Trumbo , at the 1957 Academy Awards . The film also received a nomination in the categories "Best Editing" and "Best Sound".

Rapper's works, which did not have great success after 1958, are described as "tending towards the theatrical", whereby he was "like no other able to stage the acting skills of his actors in a nuanced way".
