Sushmita Sen ( Bengali সুস্মিতা সেন Suśmitā Sen , born November 19, 1975 in Hyderabad , Andhra Pradesh , India ) is an Indian actress and former model .

biography

In 1994, when Sen was 19, she won the Miss India title ahead of Aishwarya Rai . In the same year she became the first Indian woman to win the Miss Universe competition. Two years later she embarked on a film career and has since appeared regularly in Indian cinema productions . Her first film was Dastak (1996), in which she played the victim of a stalker. The film received bad reviews, however. Her role as Rupali in Biwi No. 1 earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1999, among other awards .

Her greatest success so far was the film I'm always there for you! ( Main Hoon Na ) (2004) alongside Shah Rukh Khan . A year later, she starred in Main Aisa Hi Hoon , a remake of the Hollywood film I'm Sam . She played another bigger role in Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya - Why did I fall in love? , also a remake ( The Cactus Blossom ).

Sushmita Sen has two adopted daughters.
