Chingaari ( Hindi : चिंगारी , ciṅgārī ; lit .: "sparks") is a Hindi film by Kalpana Lazmi from 2006 . It was based on a novel by Bhupen Hazarika .

action

The tyrannical religious leader Bhuvan Panda imposes its archaic rules on the place Rangpur somewhere in northern India. For him, women can only exist in three types: goddesses, mothers and prostitutes . He always visits the latter at night in the Lalbatti district, where the love servants are at home. He likes to take the beautiful Basanti, whom he humiliates and abuses. One day young Chandan Mishra shows up in Rangpur to take over the job from the old local postman. His tour soon takes him to Lalbatti, where the innocent man becomes the plaything of the whores. Basanti in particular keeps an eye on him. When Chandan realizes that she has a good heart and works to give her daughter Titali a better future, he falls in love with her. That arouses the anger of Bhuvan Panda.

Production and publication

The film was made in 2006 under the direction of Kalpana Lazmi , who also wrote the script and was a producer together with Vikas Sahni. The music was composed by Adesh Shrivastava, the camera was directed by Vishal Sinha and Zafar Sultan was responsible for the editing. The production took place at the Studio Perfect Magic.

On February 17, 2006, the film was released in Indian cinemas in Hindi and Assamese.
