Bernard Homola
Bernard Homola (born October 26, 1894 in Mulhouse , Alsace , † June 13, 1975 in Basel ) was a German film composer .
Life
Homola studied with Friedrich Klose , Max Meyer-Olbersleben , Georg Schumann (composer) and Heinrich Albert (composer) . At the age of twelve he was already active as an organist in Metz . In the 1920s he went to Berlin and worked as a film composer. In 1928/29 he conducted the cinema band in the Primus Palast in Berlin-Zehlendorf to accompany silent films . His activities apparently necessitated the establishment of his own limited liability company under his name. During National Socialism , Homola became a very sought-after composer and his serious music has now also been performed in the concert hall. During the First World War he was an officer of the pioneers . He lived in Switzerland from around 1933/34. There he worked as an organist / conductor in the "Heilig-Geist-Kirche" in Basel and was able to continue his setting of songs critical of the regime in the Catholic song book "Gloria Dei" unmolested by the Nazi censors . In his early 70's, Homola suffered a stroke.
