The Eichert is a mountain in the southern Siegerland with a height of 468.1  m , the summit of which is in Brachbach in the Altenkirchen district . The mountain is located between Neunkirchen , Eiserfeld , Brachbach and Mudersbach .

Cross mark

The cross sign was a pedunculate oak, over 130 years old, southeast of the mountain peak. The tree stood at a height of 455  m in the border area of five municipalities: Eiserfeld, Brachbach, Dermbach , Mudersbach and Neunkirchen. It had a trunk circumference of 2.20 m and was planted on July 4, 1884 as a "Peace Oak" in memory of the wars of 1864, 1866 and 1870/71 . The tree got its name because it was near a crossroads. On the night of September 29th to 30th, 2019, it was knocked down by squalls.

The Kreuzeichen was not the first tree on the heights to bear this name. This is evidenced by a map from 1600, in which an older "cross mark" has already been entered.

There should also be a sign of the cross in the future. The district forester plans to replant as soon as this becomes possible.
