Mary Johnson (actress)
Mary Johnson , born in Astrid Maria Carlsson ; (* May 11, 1896 in Eskilstuna , or Fors , Sweden ; † May 7 or May 15, 1975 in Brännkyrka , Sweden) was a Swedish actress .
Life
In 1910 she made her theatrical debut with Karin Swanström ; until 1914 she was at the New Theater in Gothenburg . She had her first appearance in a film in 1913 at the Svenska Biografteatern in Mannekängen . Her first husband (1913 to 1920) Karl Gerhard , then still called Johnson, also played. She did not appear again in films until 1916. Within two years she then starred in more than ten films for the Gothenburg production company Hasselblad.
Johnson achieved international fame in her role as Elsalill in Mauritz Stiller's Mr. Arnes Schatz (1919). From 1924 she only appeared in German films. Her first film in Germany was Hanns Schwarz ' The Voice of the Heart (1924), in which her second husband, the Norwegian actor Einar Röd, also appeared. Among other things, she played leading roles in two films by the Munich director Franz Osten , her most famous films in Germany include Das Fräulein vom Amt (1925) and Wilhelm Dieterle's Sex in Fesseln (1928), in which she also played the leading female role. After 1931 she finished her film work. In 1932 she married the German actor Rudolf Klein-Rogge , her third marriage .
