Michel Brault
Michel Brault , OQ (born June 25, 1928 in Montréal , Québec , † September 21, 2013 in Toronto ) was a Canadian cameraman and film director .
Life and accomplishments
In Canada, Brault worked with director Claude Jutra. In California he met the French director Jean Rouch in 1959 , from which the Cinéma vérité emerged. In Europe he devoted himself to direct cinema , a form of documentary film. From 1956 to 1965 he was on the National Film Board of Canada , after which he founded Nanouk Films .
Over 70 films are among his works as a cameraman and over 20 films bear the stamp of his director. He also worked as a screenwriter, film producer, film editor and art director . He was behind the camera in the action film Gnadenlos (No Mercy) (1986) with Richard Gere and Kim Basinger .
Awards and honors
- 1980: Molson Prize
- Brault received Genie Awards for his camera work in 1981 for Weg mit Schaden (Les Bons débarras) and in 1983 for cardiac surgeon Dr. Vrain (threshold) .
- The International Film Festival of Cannes in 1975 , he won for a state of emergency (Les Ordres) in the category Best Director . Various other prizes honor his work.
- 2003: OQ
- At the Prix Jutra 2005 he was honored in a homage .
- At the Toronto International Film Festival 2007 in September 2007 his work will be shown in a Canadian retrospective.
