The Scream from the Silence is a Canadian drama from 1979, which was directed by Anne Claire Poirier (* 1932). At the Cannes Film Festival in 1979 , the film took part in the Un Certain Regard . The film was selected as a Canadian entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 52nd Academy Awards , but was not nominated as a nominee.

action

The young nurse Suzanne is kidnapped, abused and brutally raped by a strange misogynist in the back of a truck . The aftermath of the fact is part of a film that a director and her editor are working on. From time to time they pause the film to discuss their intentions and reactions to the film they are making. Interwoven with the story are documentary recordings of the stories of other women who have been raped around the world.

criticism

“The film puts the psychology of the victim in the foreground. As a pamphlet, it has a convincing effect in places, but it does not trigger any real dismay. Dramaturgically too smooth, the film hardly gives food for thought about the psychological and social causes of rape offenses. "
