Mark Joseph Gillespie (born March 27, 1992 in Newcastle upon Tyne ) is an English football goalkeeper who is under contract with Newcastle United in the English Premier League .

Career

Mark Gillespie began his career in his hometown with Newcastle United . At the age of 16, he moved to Carlisle United . On May 8, 2010, the last day of the third division season 2009/10 , Gillespie made his professional debut against Norwich City . In the 2-0 away win, he was substituted on in the 89th minute. Gillespie became the youngest goalkeeper in Carlisle's history when he made his debut at 18 years and 42 days, replacing record holder Tony Caig . In the 2010/11 season, the goalkeeper played on loan with the Blyth Spartans in the National League . For the club located 20 km northwest of Newcastle, he completed nine league games. After returning to Carlisle, he played his first game in the starting XI on September 4, 2012 against Preston North End in the Football League Trophy . A week later he guarded the gate in the third division game against Hartlepool United . Until the end of the season he was able to hold the regular place against the actual goalkeeper Adam Collin . As of 2013, he lost the place to Jordan Pickford , on loan from Sunderland AFC , and later in the season to Ben Amos , on loan from Manchester United . He was then a replacement behind Dan Hanford . After the club was relegated to the fourth division, Gillespie was a regular goalkeeper under Keith Curle . In June 2017 he went to third division club FC Walsall . A year later he moved to Motherwell FC in Scotland .

After his contract at Motherwell expired, he moved to Newcastle United in his native city in July 2020 .
