Hal B. Wallis

Hal Brent Wallis (born October 8, 1898 in Chicago , USA , † October 5, 1986 in Rancho Mirage , Riverside County , California ) was an American film producer .

Life

Hal Brent Wallis came to Los Angeles in 1922 and briefly ran a cinema. In 1923 he became a member of the advertising department of Warner Brothers . In 1928 he began his career as a film producer with Warner Brothers. In 1933 he followed Darryl F. Zanuck as head of film production. During his tenure, Warner Brothers produced numerous films that developed into great artistic and financial successes. One of his greatest successes was Casablanca with Humphrey Bogart in the lead role. His more than 400 films belonged to the most varied of genres. In addition to his organizational and commercial skills, Wallis also had the gift of recognizing budding film stars. Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas were among his discoveries. By 1956 he produced 16 full-length films with Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin , who have already had many show appearances as the duo Martin & Lewis .

From 1944 he worked as an independent film producer for the major studios. He was one of the most successful producers in Hollywood . His films have received 32 Academy Awards and 121 nominations. Hal B. Wallis was married to actress Louise Fazenda from 1927 to 1962 . After her death he married the actress Martha Hyer in 1966 , with whom he was married until his death.
