Louise Fazenda

Louise Fazenda (born June 17, 1895 in Lafayette , Indiana , † April 17, 1962 in Beverly Hills , California ) was an American comedian and actress .

Life

Louise Fazenda's family had a grocery store in Los Angeles , where Louise attended high school and St. Mary's Convent. After various jobs, she began her film career in 1913 as an actress in the Joker Comedies of Universal Studios , which also produced the comedian Bobby Vernon .

In 1915 she was hired by Mack Sennett for Keystone Studios , where she first worked in the Ambrose films with Mack Swain and was particularly popular as a hillbilly hillbilly with multiple corkscrew curls. The talented comedian quickly became the studio's second most important female star after Mabel Normand and received her best roles during a break from Normand in 1916. She left Keystone in late 1917 and followed Sennett, who had founded his own studio. Here she played u. a. starred in the feature-length comedy Down on the Farm (1920).

In 1921, the comedian ended her collaboration with Sennett to look for more lucrative offers. After a short trip to Vaudeville , she was seen as a comic character actress in feature films in most of the major Hollywood studios during the 1920s. One of her specialties was now the embodiment of snobbish high society women. After the introduction of the sound film , which did not harm her career, she also took part in musicals. She made her last film appearance in 1939 in The Old Maid at the side of Bette Davis .

In 1927 Louise Fazenda married Hal B. Wallis , who soon became famous as a film producer for Warner Bros. ( Casablanca, etc.). They had a son and were a couple until Fazenda's death. After retreating into private life, the fazenda, which is considered intellectual, devoted itself to collecting works of art and advocated for the poor, the sick and children. In 1962 she succumbed to a cerebral hemorrhage and was buried in Inglewood Park Cemetery in Inglewood near Los Angeles . Louise Fazenda has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (6801 Hollywood Blvd.).
