Painter and Girl is an American comedy film from 1955 directed by Frank Tashlin and starring comedian duo Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis . The alternative title of the film, based on a template by Michael Davidson and Norman Lessing , is Der Agentenschreck .

Rick Todd is a painter, but makes his living drawing comics . He shares an apartment with his buddy Eugene Fullstack. Eugene would like to be a writer. He writes cute little stories for children, while Rick draws bloodthirsty comics. Little does Eugene know that Rick is stealing his ideas from Eugene. Eugene has terrible nightmares at night . The hero of his scary dream stories is Vincent the falcon . Vincent the Falcon is also the main character in Rick's comics. Eugene dreams him up as half boy, half man, half falcon.
The young women Abigail and Bessie also share an apartment in the same house. Abigail is the author of the comic book Bat Lady , and Bessie is the model for this comic book. At the same time, Bessie works as the secretary to Mr. Murdock, who owns the comic book publisher that publishes the Bat Lady . Since Bat Lady is Eugene's favorite comic strip, Eugene falls in love with Bessie, who he thinks is the actual Bat Lady .
One night Eugene dreams a secret formula for rocket research that actually exists. Rick uses this for his comic book story, and that's how it is published. This calls for Soviet agents who are now hunting down Eugene. Eugene and Rick also perform at the annual Artists and Models Ball . The Soviet agents are getting closer and closer to them here. But the two heroes can defend themselves against the agents and save America from Soviet agents.

Painter and Girl is the 14th joint film by the comedian duo Lewis / Martin and the first collaboration with the former cartoonist Frank Tashlin. With Tashlin they made another film and Jerry Lewis made six of his solo films. Tashlin became a model for Jerry Lewis' own directorial work. The numerous imaginative costumes for this film were designed by the costume designer Edith Head .
The spaceship model that is briefly seen in a scene with the laboratory is a miniature, originally for the film " Conquest of Space " ( Conquest of Space , 1955, directed by Byron Haskin and production of George Pal ) has been used.
In the German dubbed version the publisher's head is called “Mr. Mordgans "(original Mr. Murdock ) and Bat Lady became" Vampire Lady ". Vincent the Falcon is originally Vincent the Vulture , Vincent the Vulture .

Four music tracks from the film have been released on the double CD Dean Martin - The Gold Collection , Proper / Retro (1997), 40-52 (The CD labels are reversed. Contrary to the list in the booklet, the film titles are on the CD with the number "1" and not on CD "2".). Dean Martin sings You look so familiar and The Lucky Song , with Shirley MacLaine the song Innamorata and with Jerry Lewis Artists and Models (the final title of the film).
Although the film was produced with stereo sound, the tracks on the CD are only in mono. One song ( The Bat Lady ) that Shirley MacLaine originally sang at a party has been cut from the film.
