Hal Kanter
Hal Kanter , actually Henry Kanter , (born December 18, 1918 in Savannah , Georgia , † November 6, 2011 in Encino , California ) was an American screenwriter, producer and director.
Life
Kanter came from a family of Russian immigrants and was the eldest son of the illustrator Albert Kanter (1897–1973) and his wife Rose Ehrenrich. Soon after his arrival in the USA, Kanter and his family settled in Long Island ( New York ).
At the age of 14, Kanter became a member of the Art Students League in New York in 1932 . In 1941 he married his long-time friend Doris and had three daughters with her. Also in 1941 he volunteered for the US Army and worked there a. a. the American Forces Network (AFN) and the Military Auxiliary Radio System (MARS).
After the end of the war, Kanter u. a. Writing scripts. The focus of his work as a producer as well as a director was mostly comedies; he worked a lot with actors Bob Hope , Jerry Lewis and Elvis Presley .
Hal Kanter died six weeks before his 93rd birthday in Encino and was buried there.
