Herbert Rudley

Herbert Rudley (born March 22, 1910 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , † September 9, 2006 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor .

Live and act

Herbert Rudley attended Temple University in Philadelphia . He left university when he received a grant from producer Eva Le Gallienne to the Civic Repertory Theater . Rudleys acting career began in the theater in 1926. His Broadway debut, he graduated in 1931 with the piece Did I Say No . He got other roles in the plays The Threepenny Opera , Abe Lincoln in Illinois and Macbeth .

In 1940 Herbert Rudley made his feature film debut in Abe Lincoln in Illinois , the screen adaptation of the Broadway play of the same name. In the following decades, Rudley was a popular supporting actor. He also became interesting for television. He was used in both dramas and comedies. Because of his stocky stature, he mainly played policemen or officers. He has guest roles in numerous television series, for example in Smoking Colts , Maverick , 77 Sunset Strip , West of Santa Fe , Bronco , Department M , The People of Shiloh Ranch , You Must Be Grown Up , My Uncle From Mars , Adorable Jeannie and Dallas . He had his most successful role on television in the sitcom The Mothers-in-Law of the transmitter NBC as a lawyer Herb Hubbard.

Herbert Rudley was married twice. He was the father of two children, whom he had with his first wife, actress Ann Loring. His second marriage to Marilyn Perl was childless. The two were married for almost 48 years. On September 9, 2006, Herbert Rudley died of a heart attack at the age of 96 .
