action

Princess Maria is a European princess who is staying with her uncle in Washington, DC . Her uncle Holman is his country's ambassador and wants to marry his niece to a respected American. However, she is tired of her uncle's constant attempts at coupling and wants to leave Washington for San Francisco . However, Maria suffers from a great fear of flying and so she takes a sleeping pill and falls into a deep sleep during the flight. When the weather worsens, pilot Eddie O'Rourke decides to return to Washington. Since he doesn't know what to do with the sleeping Maria, he takes her with him for the night. When Maria wakes up, she falls in love with the charming Eddie at first sight. The two become lovers, to the annoyance of Maria's uncle, who cannot accept the social conditions of a pilot for his princess. However, when Holman learns that the O'Rourke family is characterized above all by having a large number of children, this is an argument for him not to object to the liaison anymore. Finally there is a befitting wedding in the White House .

Reviews

“A romantic comedy with the usual entanglements, in which the 27-year-old leading actress has to slip into the role of a teenager once again. Noteworthy is a brief appearance by President Roosevelt , which can be seen during the wedding ceremony in the White House. "

Awards

Norman Krasna won an Oscar for his screenplay in 1944 .
