Norman Krasna

Norman Krasna (born November 7, 1909 in Queens , New York City , † November 1, 1984 in Los Angeles ) was an American screenwriter , playwright , film producer and film director .

Life

Norman Krasna trained at Columbia University in New York and Brooklyn Law School. He started out as a film and theater critic in New York and moved to Hollywood in the early 1930s . A first script by Norman Krasna was realized in 1932. At first he was successful with light comedies. Working with Fritz Lang , he also ventured into his first dramatic material. The story of Lang's film Blind Fury is by Krasna. In addition to his scripts, Krasna also created some plays for Broadway productions . In 1940 Krasna married the singer Ruth Frazee. She was a member of the vocal group The Frazee Sisters . The marriage ended in divorce in 1950. In 1944 Krasna won his only Oscar for the script for The Pilot and the Princess . He also directed this film for the first time. The main roles were played by Olivia de Havilland and Robert Cummings . Hal B. Wallis produced his directorial debut . In total, he made three films as a director. Prior to this Oscar award, he had been nominated three times for an Oscar. In 1951 Krasna married Erle Chennault Galbraith, the widow of Al Jolson .
