action

1919. The small town teacher Paul is also an occasional inventor. His spirit of research is driven by the desire to give his wife Marcia and his pretty daughter Sally all the luxuries he believes they deserve. One day Hannah Parmalee is on the doorstep and offers her services as a cook and housekeeper for a very low salary. Hannah is a devout Christian with a very high moral standard, which she also exemplifies at all times. Peter Trimble, a student in Paul's class, is the son of the richest man in town. Hannah quickly recognized Peters technical talent and she passed him on to Paul as a technical assistant. Together they find a revolutionary way to design refrigerated wagons for the railroad and trucks. Unfortunately, Peter reveals the secret to two car mechanics from the city, who ruthlessly want to exploit the invention for themselves and obtain the patent for it. Peter is deeply ashamed and therefore even lies to Paul about the truth. However, Hannah manages to negotiate a second chance for Peter.

Together, Peter and Paul finally develop a version 2.0, which they now, having learned about damage, have immediately patented. Things come to light on the oath, and Hannah's secret, when Thomas Bradford, an extremely wealthy banker, tries to fund Paul's invention. Peter is Hannah's son from a love affair with Thomas Bradford, and she was once forced to put her child up for adoption. She prevents Bradford from claiming Peter as his own son, as he lives happily ever after with his adoptive parents.
