action
One-eyed Marshal Rooster Cogburn has now retired because of his addiction to alcohol.
The Desperados Hawk gang ambushed a military transport and stole a cargo of explosives. To put an end to the gang, Cogburn is reinstated as Deputy Marshal. On their escape, the bandits kill Reverend Goodnight, who looked after Indians in Fort Ruby . With the resolute and contentious pastor's daughter Eula Goodnight, Cogburn sets out to pursue the bandits. After initial arguments, a warm relationship develops between the Bible-firm missionary and the coarse marshal. The two different characters are constantly fighting against each other.
The Indian boy Wolf, whose family was also killed by the bandits, helps the two of them to secure the stolen dynamite. With that, they finally blow up the whole gang. Judge Parker is not satisfied with the outcome of the action. So the pastor's daughter finally reaches for the bottle.
Reviews
- Lexicon of international films: A rough-legged Marshall gets into the elderly daughter of a preacher, who begins to educate him in a lovable, school-master manner. Big actors and beautiful landscapes ensure the fun of the routinely realized western.
