Jerzy Antczak (born December 25, 1929 in Włodzimierz Wołyński ) is a Polish film director .

Jerzy Antczak was the chief director of the Polish television theater ( Teatr Telewizji ) from 1963 to 1975 . Here he staged the classics of theater literature for television. He had his greatest cinema success in 1976 with Nights and Days based on the novel by Maria Dąbrowska . The film won an award at the 1976 Berlinale and was nominated for an Oscar in 1977. The main role was played by his wife Jadwiga Barańska , who received a Silver Bear for this film . Together with his wife, Antczak left the People's Republic of Poland in 1980 and worked as a professor for film and television at UCLA . In the 1990s, the two returned to Poland. In 1995 he filmed The Lady of the Camellias in Poland . In 2002 he filmed the love story between Frédéric Chopin and George Sand with Piotr Adamczyk and Danuta Stenka in the leading roles in Chopin - Longing for Love .
