Chopin - Longing for Love is a Polish feature film from 2002 . The film deals with the relationship between the Polish composer Fryderyk Chopin and the French writer George Sand .

action

In the hope of a scholarship, Fryderyk Chopin suffers from the despotic Russian Grand Duke Constantine . When the Grand Duke learns of murder plans against him, Chopin travels to Paris at the urging of his father to face the impending revolt .

While cholera breaks out in the French capital , Chopin has no success with his music and has to stay afloat by playing the piano in courtly salons. Since he no longer wants to be treated like a slave there, he is considering emigrating to America. His success in Paris only emerged when Franz Liszt played Chopin's “Revolutionary Etude” at a soirée under Baroness Rothschild and Chopin himself performed more of his works.

While Chopin was engaged to Marie Bertrand, he met the newly divorced writer George Sand and her children Maurice and Solange through his friend Franz Liszt . After his fiancée's father refuses a wedding, George Sand and Chopin fall in love and move to Mallorca . Maurice is hostile to his mother's new boyfriend; Chopin himself fell ill with tuberculosis . George Sand finds himself in a conflict of having to choose between her children and Chopin; a rift breaks out between her and Chopin.

Years later, George Sand and Chopin live in a tense relationship in Nohant-Vic . Solange has grown into a young woman and ensnares Chopin. While George Sand is put under deadline pressure by her publisher, Maurice tries to kill himself for fear of losing his mother after losing his father. The conflict over Maurice causes Chopin to move out. Meanwhile, Solange begins an affair with the sculptor Schlesinger, who creates a bust of George Sand to forestall her mother. A little later, Schlesinger and Solange marry. The couple's request to George Sand for financial support leads to a scandal. In the course of the marriage, Solange became the mother of a daughter.

Chopin is dealt a deep blow when George Sand separates from him. A little later, in 1849, the composer died. Shortly before, he asks his sister to bring his heart back to Poland after his death.
