Polish film award
The Polish Film Prize ( Polish: Polskie Nagrody Filmowe - Orły ) is Poland's national film prize . It was first awarded in 1999 on the initiative of Niezależna Fundacja Filmowa (NFF) and Krajowa Izba Producentów Audiowizualnych (KIPA). Since then, the Polska Akademia Filmowa, the Polish Film Academy, which has more than 500 members, has awarded prizes to the best Polish cinema productions and filmmakers of the previous year in Warsaw at the end of February and beginning of March .
A film qualifies in the year preceding the award ceremony if it was shown for a fee for at least seven days in a public cinema between January 1 and December 31. The productions must have been made by a Polish film crew and Poland must be specified as the production or co-production country. The winners are determined by a qualified Polish jury consisting of filmmakers and awarded a stylized golden eagle statuette, the so-called Orzeł ( German eagle ). The storage and transport of the envelopes that announce the winner, incumbent since 2005 notaries of the accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), the selbige task even with the award of the American Film Awards Oscar hold.
The last presentation of the Polish Film Awards took place on March 25, 2019.
Categories and records
Originally, the Polish Film Prize was awarded in twelve categories, currently the winners are awarded annually in 18 different categories - in one category foreign (European) film productions are awarded and separately an audience and an honorary award. The number of nominations varies depending on the category. While a majority of three nominations per category were awarded at the 2013 awards ceremony, four nominees competed against each other in the categories of script, production design and sound.
The most successful films are Wojciech Smarzowski's Wołyń with 14 nominations and eight awards in 2017, as well as Roman Polański's The Pianist and Borys Lankosz ' Rewers , which received 13 nominations each at the awards in 2003 and 2010 and also triumphed in eight categories. The most frequently awarded filmmaker is the cameraman Krzysztof Ptak , who was awarded an Orzeł six times between 1999 and 2010, while the film editor Wanda Zeman set a record in 2009 when she received her tenth nomination. The most successful actors are Kinga Preis and Robert Więckiewicz , each with four actor awards.
