It was first awarded in 1999 on the initiative of Niezależna Fundacja Filmowa (NFF) and Krajowa Izba Producentów Audiowizualnych (KIPA). The number of nominations varies depending on the category. While a majority of three nominations per category were awarded at the 2013 awards ceremony, four nominees competed against each other in the categories of script, production design and sound.
