Sean Maher

Sean Maher (born April 16, 1975 in Pleasantville , New York ) is an American actor . He gained worldwide fame primarily through his role as Simon Tam in the television series Firefly - The Dawn of the Serenity and the film based on it, Serenity - Escape into New Worlds .
Life
After graduating from high school , Maher began an acting education at New York University , which he successfully graduated in 1997. After various theater roles, he had his first breakthrough in 1999 when he was cast in the title role of the FOX- produced television series Ryan Caulfield: Year One . Although the series was discontinued after two broadcast episodes, Maher's acting achievements were rated very positively. Further appearances in series and television films followed. Maher starred as Adam Matthews in the Party of Five series for seven episodes . In the short-lived series The $ treet - Who offers more? he was part of the main cast as Chris McConnell .
In Joss Whedon's science fiction series Firefly - The Dawn of the Serenity , Maher embodied the doctor Simon Tam in 2002 . Although this series was also discontinued prematurely, very good DVD sales ensured that Maher achieved international fame. He made his cinema debut in 2005 in the film Living 'til the End . In the same year he played Simon Tam again in the Firefly- based feature film Serenity - Escape into New Worlds . In 2010, he starred again alongside his Firefly co-star Jewel Staite in an episode of the science fiction series Warehouse 13 .
In 2011 Maher appeared on the NBC series The Playboy Club . In the series, set in the 1960s, he played the gay Sean , who leads a fictitious marriage with the lesbian Alice . Due to the poor ratings development, the series was canceled after three episodes broadcast as the first of the new series of the 2011/2012 season.
In September 2011, the actor came out as gay while reporting on The Playboy Club . Maher has lived with his husband since 2002, they both have a daughter born in 2007 and a son born in 2010.
