Bob Baker (actor)
Bob "Tumbleweed" Baker (eigt. Stanley Leland Weed ; born November 8, 1910 in Forest City , Iowa , † August 30, 1975 in Prescott , Arizona ) was an American actor .
Baker learned to play the guitar during his time in the US Army (in which he also served again after his film career and during the Korean War) . He worked for various radio stations, including the country broadcaster WLS in Chicago , until he received a film contract based on a letter of application that his mother had sent him to Universal Studios .
Starting in 1937, he shot twelve films as the sole star before he was teamed up with Johnny Mack Brown and Fuzzy Knight to form a trio that appeared in six films. After that his way went down as fast as it had led up - singing cowboys were no longer in demand; after increasingly smaller roles, he left Hollywood and worked in Arizona as a police officer and owner of a saddle shop ; he made these himself. After numerous health problems, he died in 1975.
Baker was married and had four children.
