Paul Wendkos

Paul Wendkos (actually: Abraham Paul Wendkos ; born September 20, 1922 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , † November 12, 2009 in Malibu , California ) was an American film director .

Life

Paul Wendkos studied film history and aesthetics at the New School for Social Research and began his career with documentaries. In 1957 he switched to fiction; There he developed into a distinguished director who was responsible for over 110 feature and television films or television series episodes . These included successful formats such as Route 66 , West of Santa Fé or Die Unbrechlichen . From the 1970s he specialized in television games; In 1988 he was for the TV movie 847 - Flight of terror with the Emmy Award excellent.

His work for the big screen include the teen comedies to April (1959/61), the Western - Sequel Guns of the Magnificent Seven (1969) and the horror film Mephisto Waltz (1971). After 1971 Paul Wendkos only worked as a director for television productions.

In 1999 Wendkos withdrew into private life. He died on November 12, 2009 in Malibu, California at the age of 87.
