Cannon for Cordoba (original title: Cannon for Cordoba ) is a western produced in Spain by Paul Wendkos. German premiere was on Christmas Day 1970.
action
1912: General Pershing develops a plan to prevent General Hector Cordoba from being used against the American civilian population after six cannons were stolen by Pancho Villas. A group of selected men under the leadership of the officer Captain Rod Douglas, whom Pershing accused of doing nothing during the attack, are sent to Mexico to retrieve the cannons or to render them harmless; in addition, Cordoba is to be brought to justice in the States. With the help of the pretty Leonora Cristobal, Douglas and his mixed troop want to approach the general, who is known to be unable to resist women. Leonora has a personal motive; she was once raped by Cordoba and her family was killed. She is smuggled into Cordoba's group as a deserter with Gutierrez, a Mexican liaison officer, but betrays her companion; Douglas and Rice can infiltrate, however. The following night, Douglas was able to carry out his plan anyway - with them and the force of dynamite he destroyed the fort into which Cordoba had withdrawn, killing many people on both sides. The cannons are broken too; Cordoba is killed by one of his own people.
criticism
"Routine westerns, played very well and staged tightly."
"The characters in the film are those we know from at least a hundred other films, with the exception of Pete Duel, more of a hippie than a historical long-haired soldier playing guitar."
"Well rolled out Wild West adventure, clichéd in the plot, enriched with many shootings."
Remarks
The film was shot in the Madrid area (including Villamanta ); the actress Francine York had a nude scene that was still unusual for the time.
In smaller roles several "regulars" playing from spaghetti westerns , such as Aldo Sambrell and Chris Huerta .
